Now on the market for $48 million, the remarkable Knoll House in Pasadena, CA, has broken a local record.

The list price has topped the record previously held by an unfinished Richard Landry mansion, which was listed in September for $39,800,000.

The estate is comprised of two stately structures: the main residence, which was built in 1916, and an entertainment gallery, both of which are connected by an underground passageway.

It was built by Peter Hall, the primary builder of Pasadena’s landmark Greene and Greene homes.

The residence was designed by architects Myron Hunt and Gordon B. Kaufman, who created some of the area’s most impressive architectural landmarks, among them the Huntington Library, the Huntington Hotel, and the original Los Angeles Times building.

It’s been carefully restored by its current owner, financier John Vidalakis.

“Knoll House’s current owners spent seven years meticulously and flawlessly restoring, renovating, and incorporating 21st-century technology and amenities to this magnificent gated property,” says agent Carol Chua, who is co-listing the property with Darrell Done. Both are with Coldwell Banker Realty in Southern California.

“The result is an ultimate, move-in ready trophy estate, which is ideal for hosting intimate personal gatherings or grand corporate functions and charity events with hundreds of guests,” says Chua.

The main residence measures about 12,300 square feet and has six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and six fireplaces.

The floor plan is surprisingly open for a home of its era. The basement alone measures 2,700 square feet.
