It is fitting that a classic old Hollywood estate with associations with many celebrities sits on a street named De Mille Drive.

The star-studded property, known as the W.C. Fields estate, recently landed on the market for $15 million. In the past, stars have lined up to purchase the well-pedigreed property.

Now the question is: Who will be the next celebrity owner of this slice of Hollywood history?

The estate’s legacy dates back to the 1920s, when the Italianate/Beaux-Arts style mansion was built.

The silver-screen legends Charlie Chaplin and Cecil B. De Mille helped develop the classic, prestigious Laughlin Park neighborhood at the foot of the Hollywood Hills. Which probably had more than a little something to do with the name of the street.

The iconic comedian and film legend W.C. Fields owned the estate in the 1940s, hence the home’s name. But he wasn’t the only one to shed a little stardust on the property. The comedian Lily Tomlin also owned the place for a while, as did the character actor Gary Werntz and his producer/director wife, Mimi Leder.

The estate is now in the possession of Bobby Patton, a Texas oil tycoon who’s also a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Patton purchased the W.C. Fields estate in 2013 for $7 million, doubtless aware that neighbors in the popular area have included A-listers like Angelina JolieKristen Stewart, Casey Affleck, Emma Roberts, and Natalie Portman.

But A-list connections are only a small part of the estate’s appeal. Many of its vintage features have been meticulously restored, from the antique mahogany paneling and woodwork sourced from a Spanish monastery to the elegant plaster moldings.

One of the estate’s most striking features is the arched glass solarium, which also offers a remarkable vista of the Los Angeles skyline.
